Sydney Omarr's Day-By-Day Astrological Guides 2011

By spirituality

Sydney Omarr was a 20th century astrologer who popularized the idea that one could know a LOT about a person, merely by knowing their star sign (also called a sun sign).

Where other astrologers usually stress the difficulty of their task, the nuances that go into astrology - with planets, precise hour of birth etc. - Sydney Omarr became famous for the opposite.

His line of yearly astrological guides was started when he was still alive, but continues on in his name through the work of two of his students: Trish and Rob Macgregor.

He regarded numerology as his first love, and wrote a few books, including Thought Dial, on the topic, but despite the success of that book, was unable to earn a living at numerology. The result was that he moved over to astrology, which also interested him.

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army where he was the first and only astrologer within a year. He wrote a horoscope column for the U.S. Army's Stars and Stripes Newspaper. He believed his private horoscope work for President Franklin D. Roosevelt won him that position. After leaving the army Omarr studied journalism at Mexico City College. This served him well at his next job: reporter for the United Press.

Omarr's first book was entitled Sydney Omarr's Private Course on Numerology, which he self-published and sold for $2.00. The success of this book stimulated him in his literary endeavors.

As Omarr became a prolific author, he also reinvented himself as a celebrity in his own right, appearing on various radio and television shows. He not only appeared on shows with Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, and Johnny Carson, he also knew countless celebrities. In 1966 was married for less than a year to Jeraldine Saunders, a former model, and the creator of the Love Boat concept for ABC Television.

Sydney Omarr believed he had been an astrologer in many previous lifetimes, because of the ease with which he was able to do full planetary horoscopes in his head when given an individual's birth coordinates and birth time.
